Oftentimes, a chart found on the internet will be done by an artificial intelligence program, or a musician lacking the knowledge necessary to correctly chart out a particular instrument (Ex. a guitar tab chart that has the right notes in the wrong places, or a piano transcription that includes notation from the vocal melody, when it should just be the piano part on the recording). Service Fees & Pricing

In order to ensure accuracy and authenticity for all commissioned transcriptions, The Van Tuyl Music Foundation quotes all projects on hourly-rate terms. Once your request is submitted, The Van Tuyl Music Foundation will provide you with a quote for the number of hours necessary to transcribe the piece, and the time necessary to complete the project (generally 1-2 weeks). Payment in full for the quoted hour(s) is required for the project to commence. Once complete, VTMF will provide all sib, pdf, midi, musicXML, & video files of the project.

It is a literal transcription of what is played on the instrument on the recording of the song. Example: Our Piano Transcription of Billy Joel’s New York State of Mind contains every note played on the piano in the song.
    What is an Instrumental Arrangement from The Van Tuyl Music Foundation?
    An instrumental arrangement means our team of musicians created an arrangement for your instrument that includes the chords, melody, solos, and other significant elements from the song. Example: Our Instrumental Arrangement of The Long and Winding Road by The Beatles contains elements of the piano and string parts, the bass part, and the vocal melody. This all combines into a beautiful arrangement of the song for listeners to enjoy.
    What is a Rock Band Arrangement from The Van Tuyl Music Foundation?
    A rock band arrangement means our team of musicians created an arrangement for your instrument that is designed to be performed by one musician in a live performance, rock band setting. Oftentimes, instrumental parts on a recording are created through layering multiple takes, or have excessive amounts of improvisation that may not be realistic for one to perform live. Our team transcribes, analyzes, and then creates a realistic, single-instrument part for you to perform in a band. Example: The recorded drum set part on My Chemical Romance’s Welcome to the Black Parade is a multi-layered drum part. Our Rock Band Arrangement is designed so one drummer can play on a standard drum set, and play all the major elements of the recorded part so it sounds like the song.
    What is an Accompaniment Arrangement from The Van Tuyl Music Foundation?
    An accompaniment arrangement means our team of musicians created an arrangement for your instrument that is designed to be performed by one musician in a live performance, acoustic setting (generally on guitar or piano). Oftentimes, instrumental parts on a recording are created through layering multiple takes or have heavily improvised parts that may be challenging to perform. Our team transcribes, analyzes, and then creates a realistic, single-instrument part for you to perform as an accompanist with a singer. Example: Our accompaniment arrangement of Just The Two of Us by Bill Withers for guitar contains the chords of the song, as well as some other instrumental melodies on the recording, so a guitarist could accompany a singer with an arrangement that captures the significant elements of the song.

    The Van Tuyl Music Foundation’s team of elite, professional musicians spends hours listening to and learning each song, and then transcribing every note, accent, dynamic and fill we hear. Once complete, they are checked, and re-checked for accuracy before we release them. Because we are human musicians, it is possible that we miss a note somewhere, or make an error, but it is extremely rare. Accuracy is our primary concern, so if you find one, please alert us so we can fix it!

    About The Van Tuyl Music Foundation

    Hi, my name is Ryan Van Tuyl, and since 2004 I’ve helped thousands of kids learn piano, singing, guitar, bass, drums, and songwriting in schools all over the world. The programs I’ve created teach kids how to achieve their musical dreams and become better, hardworking individuals through learning to play and perform rock, pop, hip-hop, blues, metal, and jazz music. Graduates of my programs have attended prestigious music colleges and universities. However, these programs have only been able to exist in middle-to-upper-class communities, where parents can afford to fund music education for their children directly.

    While all of this has been a fantastic experience, it has left out kids who attend schools in underprivileged, more diverse communities without funding for modern music education. Schools and districts in these areas lack funding for the equipment, teachers, curriculum, and support necessary to facilitate rock-band-style programs like the ones I’ve created.

    My mission was to tackle this head-on and bring these exceptional programs to students in economically challenged areas, so I sold my music schools and am launching The Van Tuyl Music Foundation to forever change music education. Our foundation will directly provide the funding for the equipment, instruction, curriculum, and support necessary to facilitate these programs.

    We transcribe all kinds of songs and music genres! Please send us your music, we will definitely be able to transcribe it for you. Piano covers are our most popular requests, but we can transcribe anything, from orchestral themes (for any instrument), to piano & vocal arrangements, lead sheets with chords, guitar TABs, chamber music, vocal ensembles, a sung melody with lyrics, jazz solos, bass lines, drums, horns and many more…

    Can you work on large projects?
    We love working on large projects. Our team of 20+ musicians can coordinate to work on your project and deliver multiple transcriptions in a short amount of time. So far, our customers have trusted us to work on their the following types of projects: original CDs, full musicals, songwriting projects, family archival projects… There is nothing like working with other musicians around the world!
    I need a midi transcription – can you do that?
    Yes. A midi transcription is generated after the sheet music is created in our music notation software, so we can include the file on delivery, at no extra cost.
    I need a transposition – can you do that?
    Once we transcribe your music, we can then transpose it to any key you’d like. We can even provide you with your transcription in multiple keys at no extra charge!
    I have a pdf and I need the MusicXML / Finale / Sibelius / midi file – can you do that?
    Yes. We have copying / digitizing services and we will be glad to assist you. Send us the pdf and we will provide you with the file types you require.
    I need a digital version of handwritten sheet music I have. Do you offer that service?
    Yes, we do. We offer engraving and digitizing services for handwritten scores. Send us your handwritten sheet music and we will take care of the rest!
    In which languages can you add lyrics?
    Our team can add lyrics in most languages. We will confirm our ability to fulfill your request prior to sending you a quote.
    What is the ordering process?
    1. Fill out the Request a Quote form. Provide us with as much information as possible.
    2.We will evaluate your music, plus all details you provide, and then send you a quote for the project.
    3. Once satisfied with the price and details, we will send you a secure payment link for the quote.
    4. As soon as we receive your payment, we will begin working on the project. Most projects take 1-2 weeks to complete.
    5. We send you your files. If there are any issues at all, alert us and we will be happy to adjust for you.
    I need a transcription done urgently. Can you help me?
    Yes! Our standard delivery time is 1-2 weeks, however we can accommodate rush request for an additional charge.
